Google AI Overviews appear on more how-to searches
Overviews are showing on more practical queries — worth checking your top pages.
What happened?
Google has been showing AI Overviews — the synthesized answer box above the normal results — on a broader set of practical, how-to style searches. Queries that used to return a plain list of links increasingly open with a generated summary that draws on several sources.
Why does it matter?
When an Overview answers the question in place, fewer people scroll to the blue links beneath it. The sources cited inside the Overview become the visible winners. If your how-to or explainer pages rank well today but are not structured for an engine to lift cleanly, you can lose visibility even while your ranking holds.
Should I do anything?
Look at one or two of your best how-to pages. Make sure the page answers its core question in the first sentence or two, with a heading phrased the way a person would actually ask. That single change is what makes a page easy for an Overview to quote. Save the deeper structural work for later — this first pass takes minutes.
